Initial research and development of JaguarRoute(JRoute) started in the summer of 2003. A prototype of JRoute in the aspects of routing capacity, speed, and quality completed in December 2005. In January 2006, Jspeed Design Automation Inc. was founded by Dr. James Ho.

Dr. James Ho got his Ph.D. degree in computer science from Louisiana State University. His Ph.D. dissertation was in the Greedy Channel Routing Algorithm and got published in IEEE Transactions on Computer Aided Design in 1992 and 1993. Dr. Ho has been a professor for 8 years and worked in the EDA industry to develop various router engines for 5 years, including a sub-module of IC-Craftsman (ICC) while working at Cadence.
